Poha Paradise

Where you should head if you want to dig into the fluffiest poha in Bangalore. On a sunny Saturday morning in Bangalore’s Koramangala, Mr Foodakris and I are still recovering from a hangover. Now is the time to eat something - something not too oily, perhaps a little light, fluffy and a good deal spicy. Our Koramangala friend V suggests that we try some Indori-style poha in the neighbourhood. Now anyone who knows poha also knows how the Indori variety is easily the most scrumptious. Mr Foodakris and I indulge in a throwback to the best poha we have had so far - not in Indore (never been there), but in Pushkar, Rajasthan. For a measly 20 rupees, the husband and I had eaten two plates of poha, served up in newspaper and garnished with tomatoes and coriander. In fact, so well-made was the poha that we did an encore on our next morning in Pushkar. But what are the chances of getting such yummy poha right here in Bangalore, miles away from Indore/ Pushkar? I tell Mr Foodakris ...

OMG Obattu!

Hi guys, Welcome to Hubba Grubba's first (technically second, but that was just a hello, so let's call this the first) blogpost. Given that Mr FoodaKris and I have now moved base to namma Bengaluru, it only makes sense to kickstart this epicurean journey with a quintessential Bengaluru speciality - the obbattu/ ubbatti/ holige . Hailing from Mumbai, I have had my share of puran poli but I found the Kannadiga take on it mind-blowingly yummy, not to mention the variety on offer. The holige encounter happened purely by chance, although I had longed to try it out. Luckily for me, a trip to the neighbourhood MTR cafe (I am talking about the one in Malleswaram; this place too deserves its own blogpost) brought us to the vicinity of a Holige Mane (translates into the home of holige aka puran poli). A hole-in-the-wall plac...

Hello!

Hi there, This is Mrs Foodakris (no relation to Ludacris). As you may have guessed, I love food. Luckily for me, so does Mr Foodakris. Like the cliche goes, a big part of our relationship is about deciding what to eat. I won't say I am good at tinkering in the kitchen - you’ll know about it soon enough - but that doesn't stop me from enjoying, photographing (very important these days) and occasionally, messing up good food. Fuelled by my considerable expertise (ahem!) in these areas, I have now decided to take you guys along on my culinary rides. Please feel free to reach out to me and share your feedback. In the meantime, g o ahead and dig in!
